Learning to Pray

Learn the Lord’s Prayer (or another passage of Scripture)

Use the Prayer Beads we made at the Sunday Coffee Hour or at Shrove Tuesday to learn the Lords Prayer.  I love how the beads move back and forth.

Move a bead at the end of each phrase + Amen.

Learn to take problems and praises to Jesus

Use the Prayer Beads we made at the Sunday Coffee Hour or at Shrove Tuesday to help the children remember that they can offer up their anger, frustration, and hopes, and praises to Jesus.

Making your own Prayer Beads.  If your are doing the Lord’s Prayer, you need ten beads.

Prayer of Examen

1.  At bedtime invite your child to think through his day out loud.

  1. Naming things he is thankful for.
  2. Naming things he is sorry about or would like to change.
  3. Then thank God together for blessings, for God’s forgiveness, and for helping us become the people God created us to be.

2. Using the Prayer of Examen as a family devotional time and here, too.
