Fasting

Fasting From Ideas  (Jesus names Fear and Criticism in the Sermon on the Mount)

Create a Lent Box to combat Fear – of not having things.

  1. Bring items you feel called to give up for Lent to a rug on the floor and a Rubbermaid bin that you have labeled “Good bye for Lent . . . See you on Easter!”.
  2. Sit down with your children and explain to them that to understand others better God shows us a way.  It is called Fasting.  This Lent you thought it would be helpful for you to put some of the items that you enjoy having around you into this box.
  3. Invite your children to bring toys and games that they value to place into the box until Easter.
  4. Put the box into a closet and bring it out on Easter Sunday.

Use the prayer beads to pray instead of criticizing or complaining.

Use the Prayer Beads we made at the Sunday Coffee Hour or at Shrove Tuesday to help the children remember that they can pray instead of complaint about something or someone.

Making your own Prayer Beads.

Fasting To Ideas (Jesus names Prayer and Acts of Righteousness in the Sermon on the Mount)

The concept here is that one sets aside something else to spend time doing theses.

Create a Lent Box to make time for Prayer and Righteous Acts.
